“Do battle with God King and his Titans”

by James Thornton about Infinity Blade

Infinity Blade is a graphically-rich 3D fighting game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Based on the Unreal game engine, it is one of the most impressive looking games to date on the iOS platform.

Your mission in Infinity Blade is to protect your bloodline from the tyranny of the God King, who has subjected your people in an endless legacy of darkness. To vanquish him you must journey to the Dark Citadel, fighting the God King's Titans, before eventually coming up against the man (or beast, rather) himself.

Fighting in Infinity Blade is much more intelligent than the hack-and-slash approach of other epic iOS games such as Assassin's Creed or Rage. Battles involve attacking, dodging, blocking, parrying and casting spells, all executed through well-implemented touchscreen gestures. A single fight in Infinity Blade can last a good few minutes, especially once you get up against the more beastly characters.

Infinity Blade offers an extreme adrenaline rush, and this is only heightened by its incredible cinematic presentation. The Unreal 3 engine used by the game delivers stunning environments, detailed characters, and slick animation. The booming soundtrack and speech is incredible too. In fact, you'll struggle to find a more polished looking game on the iPhone than Infinity Blade.

Although the fights are spectacular, some players may feel frustrated by the 'rail system' employed by Infinity Blade. All of the fights must take place in sequence, and there's no free roaming element to the levels, aside from picking up the odd potion or bag of money. This makes Infinity Blade a tad repetitive, but in our opinion because the fighting action is so captivating, this may not be a bad thing.

Infinity Blade is a breathtaking game, which is a must-have for serious adventure game fans.
